THE CITY

Why it makes sense in Salamanca

  • 01

    Over 6,000 international students

The University of Salamanca started the 2025-2026 academic year with more than 6,000 international students, over 20% of its student body. People who usually arrive without a car and need to get around from day one.

  • 02

A cycle network that reaches the surrounding towns

With the projects under way, the cycle network between Salamanca and six neighbouring municipalities will exceed 126 km, and it connects with the hospital, the university campus and the train and bus stations (City Council, September 2026).

    World Heritage

The Old City of Salamanca has been a World Heritage Site since 1988. For a guest, it's an open-air museum best explored without a car.

The driest of our nine provincial capitals

AEMET measures 372 mm of rain a year at the airport, the lowest figure of the nine provincial capitals where we operate, and 2,667 hours of sunshine. That said, winters are cold, with 77 days of frost.

WHO PAYS

Payment models in Salamanca

Student residences

Free if the residence includes it; otherwise, €5 a day.

Your residence can cover the fee so the student rides for free, or not spend a euro and have the student pay €5 a day when they take a bike. For an Erasmus student spending a semester here, finding a bike with their residence's logo waiting at the front desk is part of the experience.

Hotels

A monthly fee per bike; you choose the guest price.

In 2025, hotel guests stayed 1.6 nights on average in Salamanca (INE): they come to see a lot in a short time. The fee is monthly and per bike, and what the guest pays is up to you. We suggest free if they booked on your website and a daily price, for example €10, if they came through an OTA. The guest taps their NFC room card and heads out without stopping at reception. Maintenance, insurance and support are on us.

Flex living

The building pays; the resident rides at no cost.

In a flex-living building, the building pays the fee and the resident uses the bike as part of their stay. With the cycle network reaching Santa Marta de Tormes, Villamayor and Carbajosa de la Sagrada, living outside the centre is no longer a problem.

ON THE ROAD

Typical uses in Salamanca

  1. 01

    The banks of the Tormes

By the river, with the Roman Bridge and the cathedrals in the background. Flat, quiet and with the best photo in the city.

  2. 02

From the Miguel de Unamuno campus to the centre

The campus lies south-west of the historic centre. On an e-bike, students go back and forth between classes without depending on the bus.

  3. 03

    Out to the surrounding towns

Santa Marta de Tormes, Villamayor or Cabrerizos, along the cycle network that links the city with its neighbouring municipalities.

WHAT WE GET ASKED

Salamanca: frequently asked questions

Can you ride through the historic centre?

Many streets are pedestrian-only: follow the signs and, where needed, get off the bike. It's best to leave it near the Plaza Mayor and carry on on foot.

What about the winter cold?

Winter mornings are cold: AEMET counts 77 days of frost a year and a January average of 4 °C. The bike copes fine outdoors; the student picks the time.

My residents come from many countries. What language do you support them in?

Theirs. If they have a problem with the bike, they write to us and we reply in their language. Your team doesn't have to act as interpreter.

In such a compact city, does it need to be electric?

For the centre, maybe not. To get from campus to the surrounding towns, with hills and the wind off the plateau, yes: the assistance helps up to 25 km/h and the battery is good for about 40 km.
