THE CITY

Why it makes sense in Bilbao

  • 01

The first big city at 30 km/h

In 2020, Bilbao became the first city of more than 300,000 people to limit all its streets to 30 km/h (DGT). With slower traffic, bikes and cars share the road better.

  • 02

Over 77 km of cycle network

The City Council counts more than 77 km of cycle network, of which about 36 are bidegorris, lanes for bikes only (February 2026).

Hills on both sides of the estuary

Bilbao sits at the bottom of a valley: almost every neighbourhood is uphill from the estuary. That's exactly where an e-bike makes the difference.

    Atlantic weather, no drama

AEMET records 124 days of rain (more than 1 mm) a year at the airport and a 14.7 °C average. Yes, it rains, but the bike can stay outside and gets used between showers.

    A big university, in Bizkaia

The EHU had 35,126 undergraduates in the 2025-2026 academic year, and more than half of its new students (53.72%) enrolled on the Bizkaia campus (EHU, September 2025).

WHO PAYS

How it's paid in Bilbao

Hotels

A monthly fee per bike, and you set the guest price.

53% of the travellers staying in Bilbao's hotels in 2025 lived outside Spain (INE). For them, a bike with your brand at the door is the way to reach the Guggenheim or the Casco Viejo without looking for a taxi. You pay a monthly fee per bike and set what the guest pays: we suggest free for direct bookings and a daily price for OTA bookings, for example €10 a day. The same NFC key that opens the room opens the bike, reception does nothing, and maintenance, insurance and support are included.

Student residences

The residence includes it, or the student pays €5 a day.

The residence chooses: it pays the fee and the student rides to Deusto or Sarriko for free, or it lets the student pay, €5 a day, and pays nothing. With Bilbao's hills, going electric is no luxury.

Flex living

The building pays; the resident has it included.

The building pays the fee and the resident has the bike included in the stay. For anyone who works in Abandoibarra or Zorrotzaurre, riding along the estuary is the nicest way to get there.

ON THE ROAD

Typical uses in Bilbao

  1. 01

The estuary, from the Guggenheim to Zorrotzaurre

Through Abandoibarra, flat and by the water, with the museum on one side and the University of Deusto on the other.

  2. 02

    Up to Artxanda

The hill has the best views of the city and a proper climb. There's a funicular, but on an e-bike you can pedal up.

  3. 03

From the Casco Viejo to class

Crossing the estuary to Deusto or climbing to Sarriko are short trips, but with a gradient. On an e-bike, students make their first class without any stress.

WHAT WE GET ASKED

Bilbao: frequently asked questions

Do they really get used with so much rain?

Yes. It rains on a lot of days, but not all day. The bike sleeps outside without any problem and the guest takes it when the rain stops.

Bilbao is all uphill. Is the battery enough?

On a full battery, the bike is good for about 40 km with assistance up to 25 km/h. More than enough to get around Bilbao and climb up to Artxanda.

Does the 30 km/h limit affect the bike?

No. The electric assistance goes up to 25 km/h, the legal maximum in Spain, below the city's limit.

What if the bike breaks down halfway up a hill?

At hotels, support is included: the guest lets us know with the Help button and we go out to them. And repairs are always on us.

How much does it cost for my building?

We give you the fee in our proposal, depending on how many bikes you need. For the user: in residences, free or €5 a day; in hotels, whatever price you set.
